Dear New College Community,
Thank you to all faculty and staff members who participated in last week’s on-campus COVID-19 testing. In all, 149 persons (including me) were tested. Remarkably and thankfully, no one tested positive. The Counseling & Wellness Center and Human Resources did a fine job of arranging this lab testing service, which ran smoothly and efficiently on both days. We did, however, have a student test positive over the weekend. The student is well, asymptomatic, and in isolation.
Please remember that all faculty and staff must be tested and submit their results to Human Resources Assistant VP Loretta Shields before returning to campus.
Students need to get tested by August 5 and submit their test results to the Counseling & Wellness Center at email@example.com prior to returning to campus. The August 5 date is to allow time to receive the test results before leaving for campus. We also ask students (and employees, of course) to take special care not to engage in activities that might increase exposure to COVID after taking the test.
There was an excellent turnout for last week’s student/family online forum to answer questions about the college’s preparation plans for reopening next month. While there were some technical glitches, we were able to record the second half of the session. We will hold another student/family forum on Zoom on Wednesday, August 5 at 7 pm.
At both the employee and student/family forums last week, questions were raised about air filtration in the campus buildings. Facilities Director Alan Burr has compiled a chart for all buildings on campus. Please feel free to email Alan Burr if you have additional questions or concerns.

All the best,
Dear New College Community,
There is not much new to report. You’ve all seen the news about the intensification of the pandemic in Florida. We are following it closely. Please take special care of yourselves and those close to you.
Thanks to all faculty and staff who joined the Zoom meeting yesterday to ask and answer questions about the college’s reopening plans. Tonight, I look forward to hearing from students and parents in a virtual meeting to provide information and answer questions about expectations for students returning to campus and the college’s plans for keeping our community as healthy as we can.
I urge every staff or faculty member who has not recently received a Covid test to register for one on campus tomorrow or Thursday. The tests will be administered outside Sainer Pavilion. You must be registered and show up at your scheduled time to receive the test. You should receive your results in 2-3 days. Human Resources will also receive a copy of your test results.
Students should get tested in their current locations between July 25 and August 5 and submit their test results to the Counseling & Wellness Center at firstname.lastname@example.org prior to returning to campus. If you are encountering difficulties getting tested, please email email@example.com as soon as possible so that we can work with you to make alternative arrangements. (Nonresident students who anticipate coming to campus for any reason should also arrange to be tested and to submit their test results.)
Florida SUS Board of Governors Chair Syd Kitson acknowledged in a statement last week: “The State universities continue to review and update their reopening plans based on the latest guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control, the Florida Department of Health, and their local health care providers.”

All the best,
Dear New College community,
As more staff begin to return to campus, we are turning our focus to COVID-19 testing for all employees. We will be hosting an on-campus testing clinic on Wednesday, July 23, and Thursday, July 24 outside of Sainer Pavilion. Later this week, employees will be emailed a link to register for the test on campus. These test results will be sent automatically to the Office of Human Resources, most likely two to three days after the test. All employees need to submit a negative COVID-19 test result to HR before returning to work on campus.
Be sure to visit our COVID-19 Updates & Resources website for the latest campus updates, policies, and procedures related to the coronavirus and our plans for reopening campus in the fall. On this site, you will find New College’s campus reopening plan, a FAQ for students and families, and information for employees.
We will also be hosting an online forum for faculty and staff on Monday, July 20 at 12:30 pm and an online forum for students and parents on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 pm. You will be receiving more information on how to join these virtual meetings later this week.
Please continue to practice social distancing, wash your hands frequently, and use face coverings in the presence of others.
All the best,
New College aims to open campus for instruction, both face-to-face and remote, in the Fall semester. Our goal is to make working and living on campus safer than working and living in the surrounding community.Learn more
